Throughout this current school year, YES Prep Public Schools will be hosting Emily Hanford, an education reporter from American RadioWorks.   American RadioWorks produces radio and web documentaries, feature stories for public radio programs (most often Marketplace on NPR) and newspaper and magazine articles for various publications.  Emily is currently working on a year-long project about college readiness and persistence and in particular, digging into the question of what college readiness means and what it takes to prepare students, especially students from low-income families whose parents are not college graduates.  Given this is her focus and our intimate work in this area, she requested to focus her story heavily on YES Prep and dive deep into these

April 13, 2012 by Brittany Baize

We are thrilled to announce that Wendy Kopp, chief executive officer and founder of Teach For America, will be our keynote speaker at YES Prep's Senior Signing Day 2012!

Senior Signing Day is an annual YES Prep tradition. For the twelfth year in a row, our graduating seniors will announce publicly the college they have chosen to attend in front of families, supporters, and the entire YES Prep student body.  The ceremony is also an opportunity for younger YES Prep students to see the rewards their peers have earned through hard work, self-discipline, and a “Whatever It Takes” attitude. Over 90% of these students will be the first in their families to attend college, and currently over 75% of our graduates return to live and work in Houston after earning their degree. Join us as we

Much like our IMPACT program, Daniel reminds us that Top Colleges Can Transform Education when they "do more to embrace students from low-income communities; but unfortunately, as Andrew Delbanco wrote recently in The New York Times, the nation's top 150 colleges -

In the words of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., “I Have a Dream.” That our future will be as bright in the future as it was in the past.
