13…835…30,600…53…45…40… Numbers Everywhere But What Do They Mean?

You like numbers?   Well, try these on as YES Prep Public Schools embarks on a historic week of having the most ever spring college tours occur in the same week all across the country!   So, you ready for a little numbers game?   Here goes:

·         13 – number of spring college tours happening from four different YES Prep high school campuses - Southeast, North Central, Southwest and East End!

·         835 - number of students and staff participating on these trips

·         30,600 – number of miles that will be travelled this week either by plane, bus or 15-passenger vans

·         53 – number of colleges and universities that will be visited this week alone by YES Prep

·         45 – number of YES Prep

Drive: The Surprising truth about what motivates teachers

I can still remember when my dad came back from our dog’s first training class. He was thrilled. We had been wondering how to get our German Shepherd, who didn’t understand English, to sit.  He had finally learned her language: thimble-sized chunks of hotdog. Turns out, dogs will do anything for a wiener, just like they’ll stop doing most things at the sound of our raised voices. My dad could now motivate a dog.  What he said next struck me as a little funny, “If only I had taken this class when you boys were younger, I would have been a much better parent.” It was then that he realized the power of carrots and sticks.

YES Prep Southeast students study for exams like TAKS, SAT and ACTFor many of the schools around the state of Texas, March 3rd is the first day towards achieving their goals outlined on the campus improvement plans – the plans they create to ensure that more students will pass tests than the previous year.  It is the reason many of the schools in the area made the decision to shut down electives since the beginning of 2nd semester. Getting rid of what they see as “ancillary” classes means students are drilled and killed with TAKS for three solid months. YES Prep Spring Art Show Announcement

YES Prep System-Wide Spring 2010 Art Show featuring work from students of East End, North Central, Southeast, and Southwest Campuses.

Who?: All 4 YES Prep schools with Visual Arts programs are involved in the upcoming art show. All art students (6th – 12th Grade) at YES Prep East End, North Central, Southeast, and Southwest have the opportunity to submit art for the upcoming Spring 2010 show in April. The art teachers will select the artworks to be featured from all four schools and all grade levels.

Students, their families, YES Prep Staff and Supporters, and the general public are invited to attend the opening and the exhibition.

What?: This is the second YES Prep system-wide art exhibition that features art by our talented Middle School and High School students.

JOB OPENING: Special Education Supervisor

REPORTS TO:          Director of Special Education

 

JOB GOAL:              The Special Education Supervisor works closely with the Director of Special Education and School Director to ensure the quality of the special education instructional program at the campus and to act as a resource to the Learning Lab Specialist and Special Education Department Chairperson in areas of teacher support, federal accountability, and student and family support. The Special Education Supervisor provides direct support to the Special Education Department Chairperson in the maintenance of a schedule of ARDs, the completion of required paperwork, and the training of campus staff in areas of special education compliance.
