The Teaching Excellence Program is a teacher preparation and Alternative Certification pathway required for first year YES Prep teachers and offered to KIPP Houston teachers interested in certification.

The Teaching Excellence Alternative Certification Program is the first step on our path to Transforming Houston.  In the coming years, we will grow to serve 10,000 students at 13 neighborhood campuses, TRIPLING the number of low-income students that finish a four-year college.  Teachers are the single greatest factor in determining student achievement and Teaching Excellence creates the teachers that will alter the educational status quo in Houston.

YES Prep is a leader in teacher development. Teaching Excellence is YES Prep’s first year teacher development and alternative certification program that ensures beginning teachers are immediately successful with our students.  Combining individualized coaching with relevant and applicable professional learning sessions, Teaching Excellence teachers will earn their Texas teacher certificates while teaching full time, earning a full-time teacher’s salary and helping us prepare more of Houston’s students for college graduation.
