Have you ever had a full circle moment? A full circle moment, for me, is when you have a beautiful, satisfying sense of completeness. You're back where you started from, but in a good way! I've been lucky enough to have several full circle moments lately, including one on our community service trip a few weeks ago.
When I was in middle and high school, I was in choir, and my choir directors started a great tradition. Every year, we went to a local nursing home to sing Christmas carols to the residents. I don't think it's my life calling or anything, but I really enjoy working in nursing homes. After high school, I started a small service ministry in Dallas where my friends and I sang at about seven nursing homes each year before Christmas. After college, I got busy and never really

A few weeks ago, I my husband Brent went on a business trip to the Northeast, and I decided to tag along because we found some cheap plane tickets. I was excited about taking a break from school, but little did I know that I would have one of the most meaningful experiences of my teaching career while there. Brent’s days were packed with meetings, but we ended up having a free Sunday. We were in New Hampshire and really close to Dartmouth, and I wanted to go see the campus. Once we were there, I thought it would be fun to Facebook Eddie Zapata and Brandon Gunter, two of our seniors who graduated last year and now attend Dartmouth. I wanted to take them to lunch and see how things were going. I taught Eddie in my very first year of teaching when he was in seventh grade. I can’t take

For the second year in a row, YES Prep will be represented at the Bayou City Arts Festival. The North Central campus sculpture students will be showcasing their sculpture at the festival on the weekend of Oct. 9 – 10. Bonnie Rhoden is a 2007 TeachForAmerica Alumna. She has taught high school social studies at YES Prep Southeast until moving into the Freshman Seminar role under the college counseling unbrella this year.
"In a battle to the death-who would win…Ronald McDonald or Jack in the Box?" This was the question posed to the students in room 30 during 4th period on Thursday, September 23. The smiles on the faces of the class of 2014 were tangible. They immediately wanted to begin answering the question presented to them during freshman seminar. The Texas A&M homeroom students were perched on the edge of their seats in a Socratic style setting as Ms. Rhoden introduced them to the game "Using Academic Stems." After the directions were explained, students were given time to pose their

The Cross Country Wizards raced to the finish line Saturday at a flat, mosquito-filled course in Brookshire, TX. At the Royal Invite, the Wizards were led by freshman Sammy Gibson, stellar again, running a school-best for this year of 14:14 for 2 miles (dropping 36 seconds off her time from last week). Sammy earned a 9th place medal. Sammy was following into the chute by Captain Paloma Mendoza, dropping 22 seconds off of her time, finishing in 15:30, good enough for 25th place. Captain Elizabeth Gonzalez led Sarah Gamblin, Lorraina Perez, and Joselyn Guevara to season-best times. JV runners Erica Rodriguez and Adelayda Orozco competed as well, with Adelayda being our MOST IMPROVED runner of the day, dropping 67 seconds off of her 2 mile time from last week.
The Varsity Boys were led
