YES Prep will welcome a strong force of new and veteran teachers this month.  This is the second of 3 letters from YES Prep alumni, welcoming new teachers into the YES Prep family:

 Welcome to YES Prep!

As a former YES Prep student, and now alumni, I would like to formally welcome you as well as congratulate you on becoming a part of one of the best families around!

First off, I would like to tell you a little bit about myself. My name is Ruby Serrano, and I am a proud recent graduate of YES Prep Southwest! Dear New Teachers,

 Welcome to the YES Prep family! My name is Crystal Usoro and I am a graduate of YES Prep Southwest’s Class of 2011. As a member of the newest alumni class, I am excited to share my experiences with you and offer some advice from a student’s perspective.

Alumni Spotlight:  Alexzandria Cormier-Hill, YES Prep Southeast Class of 2006

Alexzandria Cormier-Hill graduated from YES Prep Southeast in 2006.  She attended the University of North Texas where she majored in Marketing, minored in Fashion Merchandising and graduated in May 2011.  Alex currently serves as Social Media Coordinator at Integrated Cloud Solutions in Dallas, Texas.

There are many YES Prep memories I would consider my favorite. But since I can only pick one, I would say it would have to be a venting session all the girls had on our 7^thgrade spring trip. YES Prep Fine Arts featured at the Houston Museum of Natural Science

For the second year in a row, art from YES Prep is featured at the Houston Museum of Natural Sciencein the Cockrell Butterfly Center(Lower Mezzanine).  Middle school and high school students from East End, North Central, and Southeast had the opportunity to showcase their work in a professional museum setting.

Debbie Guelzow, an art instructor at North Central, had her students create art inspired by the children’s book author and illustrator Eric Carle.  Their art depicted butterflies and insects, just as Carle’s work often features insects and other animals.  Manuel Munoz, also an art instructor at North Central, had his students work with watercolors to create whimsical and realistic depictions of butterflies and insects.

YES Prep North Central’s Second Graduating Class Receives $2.7M in Financial Aid

Going into the 2010-2011 school year, the YES Prep North Central college counseling team was faced with what appeared to be a daunting task: to replicate the college admissions success of our inaugural graduating class, the Class of 2010. The Class of 2010 was definitely an impressive group of students. As our first class of 6th graders back in 2003 (then we were known as YES Prep Northeast), the Class of 2010 lived up to our school mascot, the Trailblazer, and truly blazed an impressive trail for future students to follow.

Enter the Class of 2011. A proud group of 55 seniors poised and ready to become YES Prep North Central’s second graduating class.
