The Ideal YES Prep Teacher

April 19, 2010 by Jeremy Jones

YES Prep Southeast Teacher Meredith Cruikshank with students`The Ideal YES Prep Teacher has clear goals that are associated in some sense with becoming the best in a given context (i.e. obtaining “exemplary” rating in TAKS, becoming a School Leader, promoting, obtaining and sustaining high student achievement). Not only that, but, the Ideal YES Teacher has the self-discipline required to become the best and to continue giving a 100% effort over the long haul. Along the same lines, the Ideal YES Teacher strives for perfection in all endeavors. I’m not coaching athletes, I’m coaching teachers

February 26, 2010 by Jeanne Fruge Rodriguez

As the students entered the classroom, I took a deep breath and mentally reminded myself that this was my classroom and that I had a Master’s Degree in education. I was ready for this. Ready for them. Once they were all seated and I got their attention, fear struck. February 08, 2010 by Matt Neal

Early in my teaching career – before I’d been exposed to the exhilarating and exhausting world of high-performing urban charter schools – a student of mine asked me what I would do with a billion dollars.  Since I’m not a connoisseur of “bling,” I had to think for a moment, but the answer eventually arrived: “I’d build the best school in the world.”  Little did I know…

Okay, so I don’t have a billion dollars (yet), but I do now have an opportunity – due to the generous trust of YES Prep’s leadership – to build a superlative school.  I still don’t know the neighborhood or the mascot or the names of the 140 sixth-graders who will cross its threshold in August of 2011, but I do know that the 9th YES Prep school will be a forum for the pursuit of ideas and dreams, a site of investigation
