YES Prep's Senior Director of College Initiatives, Donald Kamentz recently accepted the Presidential post for TACAC. The Texas Association for College Admission Counseling or TACAC is the state association for the National Association for College Admission Counseling and "is dedicated to supporting the work of counseling and enrollment professionals as they advance student access to postsecondary education. NACAC is committed to promoting high professional standards that foster ethical and social responsibility."
Kamentz has been a member of TACAC since he started his professional career in college counseling in 1999 and has served in several capacities in the state association including:
We are excited to celebrate this accomplish with Donald. When I asked about what he hopes to accomplish as President, he said, "When I was elected to represent TACAC as the NACAC Secondary School delegate back in 2007, I promised the membership I would use my diverse experiences on both the college and high school sides to continue advocating in the best interests of our students, their families and our counseling professionals. At that time, the issues I saw then as critical to our work – college affordability, the ever-growing need for more federal financial assistance, diversification of college campuses and academic preparation and readiness – have not diminished in the least. In fact, they are even more imperative and directly impact how we counsel the college-bound student and their family on a daily basis." He continued, " To this end, I believe that equity and access for all students, regardless of their backgrounds, has to be at the forefront of our decision-making on every level – local, state and national. As TACAC’s President-Elect, I will work to ensure that the entire membership is fully empowered to fulfill this commitment and ultimately best serve our most important constituents – our students."
"Since I first joined TACAC back in 1999, I have been surrounded by an organization filled with committed educational colleagues who work tirelessly to serve our state’s children and their families. From providing guidance to a brand-new college counselor fresh on the job to allowing that same person eight years later to help lead the training of new high school counselors, TACAC has provided me, and countless others, the opportunities to continue growing both personally and professionally and to ensure successful results and outcomes for all. The ability to further serve this organization in this new capacity as President-Elect is both an honor and privilege I welcome."
