YES Prep Southwest Students Prepare for SAT

The Class of 2011 at YES Prep Southwest, fifty proud Mavericks, have put themselves to the ultimate test… preparing to battle the SAT exam. For the past two months, the Juniors have relentlessly pursued their dream of a college education by giving their all in SAT Prep class. Every day we use all the available strategies – Big Ones and Little Ones, PITA: Plug In Your Own Answer, KISS, POE, Triggers, etc…the list goes on and on. They have spent long nights working practice problem sets until their calculator batteries run dry, reading and analyzing SUPER boring critical reading passages, and learning the Hit Parade of 250 vocabulary words….(BTW, what does avuncular, jejune, and subterfuge mean anyway?) They have been introduced to Joe Bloggs…the “average” student… who the heck wants to be average? Not us! And certainly not the students in the Maverick Nation! We have explored our POODS and learned how to guess with style! All while carrying two 500 page SAT books around campus EVERYDAY! Impressive! It has been quite easy to spot a member of the Class of 2011 the last two months…they are the ones with the super big arm muscles, compliments of carrying the GIGANTIC SAT books! So, no matter the results of last week’s SAT test, we stand proud to have worked side-by-side with these fine young men and women. Mavericks, we are so proud of all you have accomplished!

i did not know about the SAT until my last semester at high school.

Hey Timmy… I am right there with you! Thanks so much for reading the blog and posting a comment. I sometimes wonder how different my life might be if I were this prepared for college. Our kids and teachers are doing whatever it takes to get ready for getting and and getting through a four-year college!
