YES Prep Southwest becomes second National Blue Ribbon Nominated School in the YES Prep Network

It is official. YES Prep Southwest is one of 26 public/private schools in Texas that have been nominated to be a 2011 National Blue Ribbon school. If you have not heard of the award here is a brief synopsis:

The Blue Ribbon Schools Program honors public and private elementary, middle, and high schools that are either high performing or have improved student achievement to high levels, especially among disadvantaged students. The program is part of a larger Department of Education effort to identify and disseminate knowledge about best school leadership and teaching practices. Each year since 1982, the U.S. Department of Education has sought out schools where students attain and maintain high academic goals, including those that beat the odds. 

Southwest follows North Central as the first YES Prep campus to be officially chosen as a Blue Ribbon school in 2009. Now that we are nominated we will be submitting our official application in February 2011 and find out in August 2011 whether we have been officially selected. Congratulations! The awesome achievement and work we are accomplishing with our students continues to be recognized and noticed!
