YES Prep North Central’s Second Graduating Class Receives $2.7M in Financial Aid

May 31, 2011 by Chad Spurgeon

yes prep north central students sign letters of intent for collegeGoing into the 2010-2011 school year, the YES Prep North Central college counseling team was faced with what appeared to be a daunting task: to replicate the college admissions success of our inaugural graduating class, the Class of 2010. The Class of 2010 was definitely an impressive group of students. As our first class of 6th graders back in 2003 (then we were known as YES Prep Northeast), the Class of 2010 lived up to our school mascot, the Trailblazer, and truly blazed an impressive trail for future students to follow.

Enter the Class of 2011. A proud group of 55 seniors poised and ready to become YES Prep North Central’s second graduating class.

After what has been a rollercoaster of a year for many of our students, parents and staff members, I’m proud to announce that the Class of 2011 has done exactly what we had hoped they would do, they have matched the college admissions success of the Class of 2010! Here’s a quick breakdown of what these seniors have been able to accomplish this year:

• Submitted 450 applications to 116 colleges and universities;
• Admitted to 80 different colleges all across the country;
• 80% of their applications resulted in a college acceptance;
• Received over $2.7 million dollars in gift financial aid (including over $60,000 in outside scholarship).

Looking back at this year, and the imposing challenge that stared us in the face back in August, I could not be more proud of the effort, and eventual college admissions success, of the Class of 2011!
