The transformation of theYES Prep East End Art Car is on its way and the students of East End are making an Explorer ship. If you are new to Houston you are in for a great time come the end of May. Houston hosts one of the largest art car parades in the country. You might be asking, “What in the world is an art car?” For a few creative examples check out these links: http://www.artcarmuseum.com/ or http://www.orangeshow.org/art-car/.
Our East End Explorers are transforming a Buick La Sabre into a ship using a variety of mediums. Our plan is to build up the back of the car and extend the front out to a point. We will then cut part of the roof off in order to hoist a mast and sail. After the car takes on the form of a ship we are going to attach pool noodles, spray paint them brown to give the illusion of old wood. With a few flags, costumes and other decoration we will be ready to sail down Allen parkway in the parade along with around 400 other art cars!
Please follow our progress as we will update you weekly with stories and pictures. A special THANK YOU to the Sullivan family for donating their slightly wrecked car for our project!
