YES Prep and IDEA Public School Joint Presentation at National Charter School Conference
June 22, 2011 by Jeremy Jones
YES Prep and IDEA Public Schools (Rio Grande Valley) co-presented about social media and inbound marketing at the 2011 National Charter School Conference in Atlanta this week. The two schools use social media and inbound marketing to activate and increase engagement of their respective communities. The presentation was delivered by Senior Director of Recruitment and Selection, Jeremy Jones, from YES Prep and Chief of Staff of IDEA Public Schools, Tom DaRosa.
Capitalizing on four major points, Jones and DeRosa explained some best practices and experiences that have informed their stratgies in social media. Our big ideas were:
-
Integrate your tools to maximize your reach. For instance, if you use Facebook, think about how you syndicate your posts on Twitter so you can use one update that will be seen on two different platforms.
-
If you decide to use this to help you reach your goals, be constant, consistent, conversational and compelling. You have to commit to updating your social media accounts at least once a day. The more consistent you are with your content (for instance, you post student photos consistently) the more people will be able to predict and expect things from you. If you don't use these tools to be conversational, you will lose followers and lose credibility. If someone posts or comments on your page, talk back to them. Finally, the best way to drive people is to be compelling! The more interesting you are, the more fans you will have.
-
Call people to action! You shouldn't be posting things unless you tell people what to do when they access your information. Tell them what to do.
-
Finally, learn how to use analytics! With better data, you will be able to craft a more compelling message.
