YES Prep will welcome a strong force of new and veteran teachers this month. This is the last of 3 letters from YES Prep alumni, welcoming new teachers into the YES Prep family:
Dear New Teachers,
On behalf of all YES Prep students—former, current, and future—I would like to extend a warm welcome and congratulations! No matter if you are becoming a proud Wizard, Trailblazer, Maverick, Explorer, Cavalier, Force, Legend, or Marvel, one thing is certain: you are now part of a growing family, and this family is hungry for success!
As a former YES Prep student, I can only describe life at YES Prep by its motto: “Whatever It Takes!” When I wasn’t studying for Physics and Chemistry, I was preparing for AP exams. Then there was study hall, tutoring middle school students, student council, and picking up my mother from work. Needless to say, I had a heavy load by anyone’s standards. And when college applications, financial aid packets, and the death of my grandfather reared around my senior year, I was ready to throw in the towel at a moment’s notice; however, one very special reason kept me going. I had a college counselor to push me, and a mountain of teachers that I wanted to make proud. In the thick of my crazy life at YES, my teachers striving to do whatever it takes made me extend the same attitude.
My life at YES Prep was not an unusual one: it’s an ordinary, average story. I succeeded as a graduate of the University of Houston because I had great minds challenging my thinking every step of the way. Every student walking through the hallways at YES Prep only want one thing: a chance to be successful. Our success is ordinary only because of the extraordinary individuals that choose to accept the challenge of becoming our teachers.
Today, I see YES Prep teachers through the eyes of my daughter. So, from one generation of YES Prep students to the next, let me express that you are the leader, the inspirer, the Willie Wonka of our chocolate factory! You are the titans whose shoulders are holding the giants of our future. Dream big, so that my daughter’s dreams can be bigger!
Sincerely,
Graduate of the University of Houston
Bachelor of Arts in English & Philosophy
YES Prep Graduate Class of 2002
Proud Wizard
