Did you know that the best predictor of college success is the level of mathematics reached by High School students? According to research by the U.S. Department of Education, the math course content, more than any other subject area, provides the most accurate prediction of college success. This is one of the many reasons that teaching High School Mathematics at YES Prep is the most exciting and important job you can pursue. I currently teach AP Calculus at YES Prep North Central and I am also the Math Content Specialist who manages the Math program for the entire YES Prep system. Every day, I am psyched up about the work we do with our students. We take rigorous Math preparation for all students very seriously here at YES Prep. We know that our work will matter tremendously in the future lives of our students, and we are committed to always improving what we teach and how we teach so that our students are ready to meet the challenges in college. I want to give you a few highlights of our program that make it unique and powerful:
The Curriculum: Our Math teachers have developed a curriculum that aligns with AP Calculus. From the time our students begin their education at YES Prep, every concept they learn is connected to success in AP Calculus. Most importantly, this curriculum is dynamic and continuously improved by all the Math teachers. We stay on top of changes to standards and instructional practices so that our students get the most optimal preparation to succeed in college level Mathematics.
The Team: As a Math teacher at YES Prep, you are an integral part of the Team that makes everything happen: from improving curriculum, creating assessments, to developing innovative strategies on HOW to teach our students. You are empowered to figure out collectively WHAT is the most important material that must be taught. We meet every six weeks as a Team to plan, collaborate, and share best practices with our colleagues.
The Bottom Line: Most importantly, we are aligned on the same mission: we want to increase the number of students that achieve success in college level Mathematics - Pre-Calculus and AP Calculus. We have a very clear goal in mind that guides the changes we must make to our program. We welcome new ideas and critical feedback from all the teachers so that we can all achieve our goal.
So, if you are looking for a goal driven program with the highest impact on college success, where your talent is going to be utilized for the improvement of the team, you do not have to look any further. Explore teaching High School Math at YES Prep; you will be thrilled to work with our Team and our students!
