For the past ten years, 100% of YES Prep's graduating seniors have been accepted to top colleges and universities across the country. The success of our students is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our teachers, a group of individuals from diverse academic and professional backgrounds united by a sense of frustration at the status quo. We believe that teachers are the single greatest factor determining student achievement. In our weekly series, the Teacher Feature, we hope to show off our greatest resource: our teachers.

Who was your favorite teacher? Why?
I can remember sitting in my 2ndgrade class waiting for Mrs. Norman to start her lesson. I loved going to her class every single day because I knew that we would be learning something that would change my life. I was the student who always had their hand up for every single question that the teacher asked. I enjoyed getting positive praise from Mrs. Norman. In my eyes Mrs. Norman could no wrong and I wanted her approval and support, not only in my school work, but in my development as a young lady. I could talk to her about anything and everything.
What made it so special was that she lived in my neighborhood, and I got to see her not only during the week but on the weekends. She had a personal relationship with my parents and she made sure that I had everything I need to not only to be successful in her class but in all of my classes. I think she is one of the main reasons why I choose to become a teacher here at Yes Prep. She motivated me to do my best and assured me that through hard work and diligence I could achieve anything. I want to be able to have that same impact Mrs. Norman had on me with my students. It is because of individuals like her who not only care about your learning but care about you as a person that makes teaching a profession that you can fall in love with. Every day I walk into my classroom no matter if I’m tired or stressed out from all of the work that I have put into planning my lesson, and I am refreshed because I think to myself if it were not for teacher like Mrs. Norman I wouldn’t be where I am today. I want not only to make myself proud, but I want Mrs. Norman to be proud of me and all the work that I do from my children in my class.
