Under the leadership of Art Instructor Debbie Mendrano, YES Prep North Central sculpture students Martin Macias, Vanessa Acosta, Iris Mendez, and Brenda Quintero have had their sculpture “Chained Animal Life” shown around town this past week. Last week, the students took their sculpture to Channel 11’s Great Day Houston and their artwork was shown as part of a segment promoting the Bayou City Art Festival. Then on Friday, a school holiday, the students came to the campus to gather their group-made sculpture and take it downtown to be a part of the Art on Water exhibition at the Bayou City Art Festival.
The exhibition took place in the City Hall reflection pond which meant that all nine sculptures that were part of the exhibition had to float. It took the students three and a half weeks to create and their hard work looked amazing throughout the entire
festival weekend.
After a weekend of great weather and a ton of visitors, the festival came to a close and the sculpture was removed from the pond and taken back to school. It is currently looking for its new home on the North Central campus.
