JOB OPENING: Director of Financial Reporting
REPORTS TO: Chief Financial Officer
JOB GOAL: Under the direction of the Chief Financial Officer, responsible for all matters related to financial reporting for YES Prep Public Schools. Reporting responsibilities include monthly financial statements, monthly statements for the Board of Trustees and its subcommittees, periodic reports for funders, annual audit and all reporting in conjunction with bond offerings and other debt instruments. Coordinate accounting efforts with the accounting process and financial reporting, which includes budgeting and budget to actual comparisons.
OVERVIEW: Founded in 1998, YES Prep Public Schools is a free, public school system that prepares low-income, minority students in 6th-12th grades for college graduation. 100% of YES Prep’s graduating seniors have been accepted to college and over 90% are the first in their family to attend a four-year university. In fact, every senior graduating from YES Prep Public Schools is required to gain admittance into a four-year college or university in order to receive his/her high school diploma. YES is the only school in the greater Houston area to be ranked by both U.S. News & World Report in its inaugural list and again by Newsweek magazine as one of America’s Top 100 public high schools in the United States. There are currently seven YES Prep campuses in the greater Houston area that serve over 3,500 low-income students.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES: (include, but not limited to)
The Director of Financial Reporting will:
Develop and implement a comprehensive financial reporting process to meet the needs of diverse users;
Integrate financial reporting with budget gathering and evaluation processes and with YES Prep’s strategic plan;
Coordinate current activity with the long-term perspective to planning in the context of GAAP and government agency regulations;
Supervise the Budget and Planning Manager who is responsible for planning, forecasting and economic modeling;
Coordinate annual audit with external auditors, and lead the related reporting to the Texas Education Agency;
Serve as primary contact with banks/bond holders for all debt compliance work;
Maintain a close working relationship with other members of Home Office Team, school directors and relevant campus staff to ensure that financial reports accurately reflect YES Prep’s operations and activities;
Participate in evaluative processes including consideration of financing, acquisition and venture alternatives;
· Perform other duties as assigned by the Chief Financial Officer.

Support compliance with all state and federal laws, local board policies, administrative guidelines, and the Texas Educators Code of Ethics;
Serve as appropriate role model for YES colleagues, students, staff, and parents.
Conduct all YES meetings in a professional manner.
Demonstrate trustworthiness in dealing in confidential matters.
Make decisions regarding students and staff after reasonable and appropriate measures have been taken to gather important data and information; solicit input from outside sources when appropriate.
· Identify areas for own personal/professional growth;
· Participate in meetings, workshops, seminars, and conferences to enhance knowledge/skills, address areas for personal/professional growth, and further develop school goals and staff;
· Apply knowledge and insights gained through professional development. Share this knowledge with staff, campus and district leaders as appropriate;
· Keep well informed about current trends in field(s) of expertise and provide leadership in incorporating such trends into everyday practices (i.e. GAAP and TEA expectations).
Experience and Qualifications:
The ideal candidate for this position will possess the following:
5+ years in financial accounting and reporting responsibility
Experience with GAAP reporting required; experience with non-profit reporting preferred
Supervisory experience required
Fluency with various accounting software packages - APTA a plus
Proficiency with MS Office and advanced capabilities with Excel
Knowledge of non-profit accounting and public sector finance a plus
· Experience or strong interest in 6-12 public education

Education/Certification: Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance or Economics from an accredited institution
Certified Public Accountant preferred, but not required
Experience in public school finance (preferred).
COMMITMENT AND COMPENSATION:
Length of Work Year: 12 months; occasional prolonged and irregular hours of duty
