IMPORTANT DATES:
LOTTERY PROCESS: PRIMARY BOUNDARY LOTTERY REGISTRATION:
Each YES Prep school has a primary boundary for student registration. This boundary is a geographic area outlining the attendance zone where we give enrollment priority for each school. If you live in this primary boundary, your child has priority in the student lottery. This primary boundary priority registration for the lottery runs from November 1st, 2010 through April 1st, 2011.
A map of the primary boundaries can be found here.
LOTTERY PROCESS: THE INITIAL PRIMARY LOTTERY DRAWING:
On March 4th, if there is more primary boundary students registered for the lottery than available openings at the school, this list of students will be prepared for the lottery. Each school will take this list and conduct a lottery on March 7th. Only students who live in the primary boundary will be included in this lottery. If there are not more students registering for the lottery than available openings, the primary boundary students registered for the lottery will be accepted and sent letters.
LOTTERY PROCESS: PRIMARY BOUNDARY REGISTRATION AFTER LOTTERY:
Once the lottery has been conducted, any remaining available openings will be filled with primary boundary students between March 5th and April 1st. During this time period, students who register for the lottery will be accepted on a first come, first serve basis. All of these acceptance letters will be sent by April 7th. Once the remaining seats are filled, all other students who register for the school lottery will be placed in a waiting pool lottery, used to select students if any additional openings become available.
LOTTERY PROCESS: LIVING OUTSIDE A PRIMARY BOUNDARY FOR ONE OF OUR SCHOOLS
It is very rare that any YES Prep school needs students after the primary boundary registration. As a result, if you do not live inside one of our primary boundaries, your child will most likely not be selected to attend a YES Prep school. We still want you to apply for the lottery, as it gives YES Prep a good idea of where the demand is in Houston for more YES Prep schools.
