YES Prep's flagship campus, Southeast, has many long and proud traditions. They are typically known as the "artsy" kids of the system, allowed to grow, foster and celebrated as individuals. They are also still proud of their designation of the F1RST. They sent 100% of their graduating seniors to college for nine years before the next campus, YES Prep North Central, followed in kind. They have a rich tradition of amazing and quirky teachers. Despite other campuses having their own school building, YES Prep Southeast still takes pride in the fact that they attend class in trailors, a sure sign that they don't need nice rooms to perform well in school. All of these things and many others have contributed to a unique feeling at YES Prep Southeast. They are kind of the cool older brother that we all wish we had, or maybe that we do have and no matter how hard we try, we will never be able to throw the ball as far, hit a ball as hard, play guitar as well or have as many girlfriends.
This year marked a decade of a very powerful tradition: 100% of YES Prep Southeast's graduating seniors were accepted to college. While college acceptance has always been and will continue to be the minimum bar of success for our students, we wanted to celebrate some amazing statistics with those who support what we do in believing that students from all zip-codes can be successful.
YES Prep Southeast will earn an Exemplary status from the Texas Education Agency because of their amazing TAKS scores. Yes, for us TAKS tests are a minimum skills test, and while we push harder for commended scores, the scores below are a testament to the hardwork and dedication of what we call the three-legged stool: the partnership of students, teachers and parents. We congratulate the tremendous effort of everyone this year and these TAKS scores show that hard work does pay off and that students from all backgrounds can be successful.
