YES Prep’s systematic approach to college counseling ensures that students are able to navigate the college application and scholarship process. With the support of a comprehensive college counseling team that helps students choose colleges based on their strengths and interests, 100% of YES Prep graduates have been accepted to four-year colleges and universities.
Despite this remarkable statistic, high school graduation and college acceptance are milestones, not capstones, for YES Prep students. Unlike traditional college counseling programs, faculty support does not end with high school graduation. YES Prep is committed to supporting its students throughout their college careers to ensure that they successfully complete a four-year degree.
The College Initiatives Program is comprised of three key elements: comprehensive college counseling and alumni support programs and strategic IMPACT Partnerships with targeted colleges and universities. In tandem, these programs are designed to support students at all stages of the college preparation, admission, and matriculation process and to ensure successful completion of a four-year post-secondary degree.
The success of this program is evidenced by the rate at which YES Prep students persist in their collegiate coursework. For low-income students as a whole, only a quarter of the already-small percentage that matriculate to college will complete their studies and earn a degree. By contrast, 81% of all YES Prep alumni have either graduated from college or are still enrolled in a post-secondary institution. From day one, YES Prep instills in its students the expectation that they will graduate from college, not just be accepted.
In the coming years, the College Initiatives Program will continue to play a pivotal role in ensuring quality growth. As YES Prep grows to scale, the opportunities for collaboration among schools expand, along with the network of available college counseling resources. As it graduates more students each year, YES Prep will continue to evaluate and refine all aspects of the program to ensure it continues to meet the needs of YES Prep students in high school, college, and beyond.
