The Answer

Can imagine flying on an airplane with only a 10% chance of arriving at your destination? Or, how about going to the doctor with only a 10% chance of getting well?
What would happen? The public outcry for change would be overwhelming. And yet, today in our public education system, the average 6th grader in Houston has less than a 10% chance of graduating from college. The consequences for our city are just as severe as missing airplanes and sick patients.
Houston ranks last among the top four largest US cities in percentage of 25+ year-olds with a college degree.
YES Prep Public Schools was founded over a decade ago because 10% is not good enough. We are public school system with neither admission criteria nor tuition, and we require EVERY student at YES Prep to gain acceptance to a four-year college in order to receive thier high school diploma. Oprah Winfrey has called YES Prep a "groundbreaking" charter school system, Bill Gates, a "top-line result" of his foundation work, and Newsweek includes YES Prep on its list of "America's Top Transformational High Schools."
This year, YES Prep is serving over 5,400 low income minority students on 10 campuses across Houston. We invite you to join us as a Scholars Society member and help us prove that Houston will not settle for 10%.
We need your support
In order for YES Prep Public Schools to continue providing a great education in disadvantaged communities, we rely on the support of individuals, foundations, and corporations to help us meet our funding needs.
YES Prep Public Schools is open to all students. As a public charter school, YES Prep receives 20% less state and federal funding compared to traditional public schools: $1,500 less per student, each year and NO funding for facilities. Although YES Prep students attend longer school days, service projects, spring college trips and summer school, it costs the same amount to educate a YES student as it does a student attending a traditional public school.
