What is YPP?
YES Prep Professionals is a unique volunteer program that offers Houstonians the opportunity to work side-by-side with YES Prep students at local non-profit organizations. At YES Prep, over 80% of our students come from low-income neighborhoods, but that doesn’t stop them from giving back to the Houston community. YES stands for “Youth Engaged in Service” and prepares students for college success by providing real-world experiences and teaching them about the value of community service.
Now, through YES Prep Professionals, you have the opportunity to directly impact Houston and the lives of YES Prep students. Every year, YES Prep plans service days on Thursday afternoons and Saturday mornings at a variety of local charities like the Red Cross, Houston Food Bank, and Houston Humane Society. On these designated days, YES Prep Professionals meet at the campus and then accompany a group of students to their service site. Over the four hour project, you will interact with students, serve the charity’s needs, and meet other YES Prep Professionals.
Why should I participate?
YPP provides you with the chance to network with other like-minded professionals throughout Houston while also supporting our students and serving the community. YPP can serve as an excellent ongoing volunteer program for your company/department or as a one-time team building activity. YES Prep students benefit immensely from this partnership, as it gives them an opportunity to spend time with professionals outside of the YES Prep community who they would not meet otherwise. Through hearing and learning your stories, YES Prep students are exposed to new career choices and can gain an even better appreciation for what it will take to be successful in college and beyond.
When are YPP events?
Like the YPP facebook page for updates on service dates, events, and committee meetings. Check back frequently for updates and share events with your friends. On YPP service days, you will meet at a YES Prep Campus and travel with the students to the volunteer site. Thursday service dates meet at YES Prep Southwest (4411 Anderson Road, Houston, TX 77053) and the service projects are from 12 noon - 4 pm. Saturday service dates meet at YES Prep Brays Oaks (9000 West Bellfort, Houston, TX 77031) and the service projects are from 8 am - 12 noon.

Need a background authorization form?
If this is your first time to join us for a service day, please download a background authorization form here and email it to julia.byeseda@yesprep.org. You may also complete one on campus the morning of your first service day. Please bring a copy of your driver's license with you as well.
