A recent article in the Huffington Post points to an often heard criticism of charter schools, Teach For America, and of the education reform movement as a whole. The looming questions proposed in the aforementioned article include:

YES Prep Southwest was officially announced as a 2011 Blue Ribbon School this past week. The Department of Education awards the Blue Ribbon distinction to schools that serve as a national model and have dramatically increased student performance.
This award is based on five years of strong academic achievement at YES Prep Southwest. We join YES Prep North Central as the second YES Prep campus to win this award and will definitely not be the last. Any success this campus has been fortunate enough to experience has come on the backs of the YES Prep system as a whole collaborating, sharing resources and ideas, innovating and creating change together.

As a free, open-enrollment public school, our charter status provides students and families the opportunity to attend our campuses regardless of where they live. Instead of being bound by their zip code, any student in the Houston area can enroll for a seat at YES Prep through our lottery system. More Demand for Top Charter Schools than Supply: MyFoxHOUSTON.com
FOX News speaks to President Jason Bernal and Gulfton student Abigail Valencia about the demand for top quality charter schools in this video.
High performing charter schools in the state of Texas must overcome a complete lack of facilities funding in order to expand. In addition, charter schools receive less funding per student than traditional public schools. You can take action by calling your legislators. Tell them you want to see more YES Prep Public Schools. Let them know that you support equal funding for students and facilities for all top quality charter schools. The return on investment is clear: by increasing the number of low-income students that graduate from college, we're increasing individual lifetime earnings potential and transforming the long-term economic
